Santa Claus

TXPQ is thrilled to bits to publish this exclusive interview with Santa Claus. Santa uses Textpattern and has very generously given TXP users this special inside information before setting off on his long journey!

Bauble" title="baubleTXPQ What is life all about?

SC Gifts and joys. Girls and boys.

TXPQ When did you first use Textpattern?

SC Only recently - since wireless networking became practical and now that children send so many emails

Choosing Textpattern

TXPQ Why did you choose Textpattern?

SC For several absolutely essential reasons. TXP is:

  1. Easily installed - we don't have the time or technical skills to cope with awkward configuration
  2. Stable and reliable - it needs to be rock solid. The sadness that would spread if a bug should cause our critical mission to fail is too terrible to comprehend
  3. Lightweight and portable - for use on mobiles and laplandtops on sleighs and by reindeers
  4. Easy to use - elves like it simple you know ;-)
  5. Scalable and adaptable - more children expect more gifts every year so we must expand and adapt to cope. There are many plugins that greatly save time. Robert customised one for us which turns typewritten letters into articles. Some children are so poor they don't even have stockings to hang up and Mary extended winsock functionality to write us a plugin which produces colourful socks which gives the children a lovely surprise in the morning
  6. Open Source and Free - we wouldn't do it any other way!

Using Textpattern

TXPQ Do you have set procedures and how does TXP fit in?

SC I personally read all the letters and emails sent to me. With the letters, I assign a section and Mrs Claus keys them into TXP as articles. I paste the emails as new articles and assign a section and category.

There are 9 sections, one for each reindeer. Ruudolph, Sencer, Dasher, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder and Blitzen each supervise their own group of elves with gift gathering, toymaking, warehousing and sleigh-loading. They have Textpattern on their laplandtops which are all wirelessly connected to the North Pole santanet. They can keep right up-to-date wherever they may be - perhaps selecting fresh fruit or gifts from around the world, designing new toys, or getting things ready for delivery in their giant igloos.

This freedom and portability is especially important during December as last minute preparations reach a peak. Each reindeer has staff writer privileges and with easy Textile input can quickly dash off an article and dash on to outstanding requests. The elves receive Reindeer Santa Syndication on their mobiles which allows them to fine tune their gift production inline with recent articles.

TXPQ Even with modern technology, I still cannot understand how you manage to bring presents and happiness to so many boys and girls all over the world, all in one night! How do you do it?

SC That's a trade secret. All I will say is that Father Time and I have a special arrangement.

Santa digs these old tunes:
2mb 5mb 3mb 3mb 5mb
TXPQ Father Christmas, thank you very much for taking time out of your busy schedule. Do you have any last words for Textpattern users?

SC Yo Ho Ho! Here We Go! Christmas has begun!
You've worked hard all year through, now it's time for fun!
In the snow or in the sun, enjoy lots of laughter!
Spread goodwill all around, be happy ever after!
Merry Christmas Everybody!
